This consultation is all about the design of homes and relates to local authorities, developers, and communities. We’re going to build at least 1,000 new homes a year for the next decade so it’s important that we share our views.
If you’re short on time, here’s a summary of what we said:
- We welcome the draft Design Code and believe it will be a useful tool for local planning authorities.
- We’re pleased to see that the Code has been developed across various government departments as it enables different initiatives for the built environment to support one another.
- We don’t think the Code should become overly concerned with style as this should be answered through consultation between developers, communities and local authorities.
- We think it’s useful to have a standardised set of environmental and sustainable performance principles too. This could contribute to achieving the 2050 net zero carbon target.
