What you've told us
The responses to our Community Investment Plan review survey highlighted the following as key areas of concern in the Mansbridge area:
- Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) - Customers generally feel safe in Mansbridge. There is a perception that crime and ASB is increasing, although the crime figures do not back this up.
- Litter and fly tipping - Issues reported around the garage areas and greens, this especially seems to be a problem with cars leaving food and drinks containers.
- Activities for children and young people - There were lots of comments about the need for activities for children of all ages, including teenagers, toddlers and peer support groups for parents.
- Parking - Customers note that cars park or drive across the green spaces, and say there is a general lack of parking around the estate.
- Communication - Customers feel there is a lack of communication from Abri about what is happening in the area and about major services such as damp and mould, repairs and ASB. Customers get their information from many different sources, but there isn’t one method that is universal.
- Traffic/pollution - There have been reports of speeding cars around the estate, especially along Mansbridge Road, making crossing the road dangerous.
Your priorities
Looking ahead our delivery will focus on:
- Address estate improvements through community projects, collaboration with colleagues across Abri and influencing key stakeholders.
- Increase access to services, creating opportunities to increase social connections and improve health and wellbeing.
- Work with colleagues within Abri, as well as local partners and organisations to address the impact of the Cost of Living.
- Provide opportunities for the community to share ideas and have a say in decisions about the future of the estate and the local community.
- Increase access to activities and projects for children and families.
- Work with colleagues within Abri, as well as local partners and organisations to tailor our support with emerging issues as and when they crop up, such as crime, ASB, litter or fly tipping.
Who is your Community Development Officer?
Hi, I’m Cara and I’m the Community Development Officer for Mansbridge. I’ve worked in Mansbridge since 2016, first as the Housing Officer and now in my current role. I enjoy my job as it’s so varied. We’re lucky to have the Round About Café in Mansbridge, it’s owned by Abri and is a community hub where we can hold events and activities, including our Community Pantry. The cafe is supported by some amazing volunteers who dedicate their spare time to helping others. Outside of work I enjoy going to watch bands, attending music festivals, and reading.

Customers from two of our Independent Living Schemes for those over 60 enjoyed a 12-week course of exercises classes and told us they wanted them to continue.
We did:
We applied to Sport England to fund weekly sessions for a year, and have rolled the sessions out to five more schemes in Southampton and Eastleigh, meaning even more people can take part. 100% of participants said taking part in the exercise classes has made them more active.

Customers told us they would like to improve their cooking skills and save money on energy bills.
We did:
We partnered with Itchen College who ran a six-week energy efficient cookery course using woks. Nine people took part and they all agreed that taking part had increased their confidence in cooking; were eating more fruit and vegetables; had helped to ensure they had sufficient food and were using more energy efficient ways to cook at home.

Customers told us they see a lot of litter and fly tipping on the estate.
We did:
We organised a community litter pick as part of Great British Spring Clean. Nine adults and two children took part and collected 11 bags of rubbish and around ten vapes or batteries, all within an hour!
