The community of Longwood Park, Langley, has benefitted from the refurbishment of the Byron Centre – a community hub that will provide residents with an ideal space for activities, services and events.
After closing for a short while, the Byron Centre has now been fully renovated by Abri, the housing association that manages it. This has breathed new life into a valuable community resource, making it more suitable to meet the needs of local Abri customers, and the wider community.
A space for everyone
Situated on the ground floor of Byron House, the Byron Centre will provide a welcoming and inclusive space for both Abri residents and those living in the surrounding area to enjoy. Families, children, community groups and local organisations will be able to come together to take part in a diverse range of events and activities.
Plenty to get involved in
The Byron Centre will host workshops, training sessions, social events, and support groups, among other community-oriented activities. Local people will be able to take IT courses, receive employment support, attend health and wellness sessions, and enjoy recreational activities such as pool evenings and coffee mornings. The Centre also places a strong emphasis on youth activities, by providing a safe environment for young people to socialise and build friendships.
Another key feature is the community pantry, which will provide customers with access to healthy, high-quality food at a lower cost. This aligns with Abri’s commitment to supporting communities with the challenges posed by the rising cost of living.
Launching the new and improved Byron Centre
To celebrate the re-opening, Abri’s community investment team held a launch event on Tuesday 20 August. This brought together people living nearby, Abri colleagues, representatives from Slough Borough council, and other key organisations to explore the new space and share their thoughts, enjoy light refreshments and play some pool. Goody bags containing some of the items that customers will be able to buy at the pantry were also handed out by Abri.
Olivia Fuller, Community Investment Manager at Abri, said:
“It was great to launch the newly refurbished Byron Centre, show it to the local community, and meet customers and local organisations who will use the centre moving forwards.
“We plan to use suggestions from the local community to create a schedule of exciting and engaging activities. So please get in touch with us if you would like to discuss running an event or activity from the Byron Centre.”
