A new partnership between Abri and the charity Crimestoppers aims to keep communities safer.
Abri has become the first housing association in the UK to partner with Crimestoppers in this unique way. The new collaboration helps create safer communities across the south of England with customers, colleagues, and contractors of Abri all aware that they can report anything they know about crime anonymously.
Crimestoppers – which is independent of the police - exists to help people who might otherwise be silenced to speak up about crime, 100% anonymously. Always. That means never giving your personal details when passing on what you know. No police, no witness statements, no courts.
The link-up is the latest move by Abri to work with customers and communities on issues ranging from drug crime to modern slavery. As a company named in May 2022 as one of the UK’s top 100 companies to work for, they focus not only on improving their customers’ knowledge of reporting options and signs to spot around crime, but also their colleagues.
The aim is to create awareness, so that active bystanders have the knowledge of how to speak up and stop crime. This is no small mission, with over 40,000 homes, and 100,000 customers. It takes a real focus and determination to improve the current situation, but as Abri state in their central mission, ‘We want to create great, sustainable communities and empower lives.’
Mark Hallas, Chief Executive of the charity Crimestoppers, said: “As Abri themselves say, we’re unstoppable when we work together. This outlook chimes closely with ours. This is always true when tackling crime and helping to reduce the harm caused by crime. By working together - our charity, the housing provider and the community themselves - we can ensure that homes are safer, and our communities are stronger.
“We’re delighted and very proud to be working alongside Abri in this special partnership to create real and long-lasting change.”
Jim Bruckel, Head of Community Partnership at Abri said: “Our partnership with Crimestoppers, the first of its kind, will help us to make our customers feel safer when it comes to reporting issues that are impacting their lives. This partnership will complement the work that our dedicated Community Safety Team already provides. We know that anonymity so important when dealing with crime issues, particularly in the tight-knit communities that we have.
“Knowing that your personal details are never asked for or kept encourages people to do what’s right. I hope we’ll be able to increase the confidence across all parts of the community to show that reporting issues is at the very heart of making our neighbourhoods safer and better places for everyone to live.”
