To help prioritise equality, diversity and inclusion at Abri we’ve introduced EDI Ambassadors. In this role, our colleagues put forward ideas, start conversations and get active in making sure everything we do is the best it can be, with equality at the fore.
We’re spotlighting some of our Ambassadors this Black History Month, including Resourcing Officer, Elsa Fuady. Hear more from Elsa about why she became an EDI Ambassador and how her role will make a difference, below.
What do you hope to achieve as an ambassador?
I want to encourage a positive, welcoming and inclusive culture where everyone feels empowered to speak up and be themselves. I want to ensure Abri is the best it can be, and we celebrate our differences and encourage diversity at all levels as we continue to be the difference for our colleagues and communities.
What can we all do to champion and ensure equality, diversity and inclusion?
We can encourage individuals to speak up regarding EDI issues and concerns and let people know their voice matters.
What would you recommend someone read, watch or listen to this Black History Month?

If someone wants to make a positive difference but isn’t sure how to, what advice would you give them?
Start with you. We have to hold ourselves accountable for recognising and pushing back our own biases. This can be by sharing our own stories of vulnerability, learning and growth.
Be an attentive listener. Listen carefully and be compassionate when we talk to one another.
Look at things from people’s perspectives, sharing our cultures, views, values and visions with others.
And speak up if you see behaviours that could exclude colleagues or customers. At the same time, be reflective and open to colleague or customer feedback on your own behaviour.
