Jacquie’s journey to a warmer, more efficient home

When we offered a series of improvements through our targeted energy efficiency programme, Jacquie admits she wasn’t immediately convinced. In particular, she was sceptical about whether solar panels would generate much power and unsure whether the work would make a noticeable difference to her everyday life.

Since the work was completed, Jacquie’s seen a significant change in both how comfortable her home is and the cost of running it. Today, the home feels warmer, more comfortable and easier to manage throughout the year.

The improvements included new windows, loft insulation, enhanced ventilation systems, extractor fans and solar panels. These upgrades have helped reduce condensation, improve air quality and make Jacquie’s home more energy efficient. She has also had accessibility adaptations installed.

For Jacquie, one of the biggest benefits has been the impact on energy costs. By learning when to use appliances such as the washing machine and dishwasher, she’s been able to make the most of the electricity generated by the solar panels. Her first electricity bill after installation was more than £50 lower than expected, with later bills showing even greater savings.

The improved insulation also means the home stays warm more effectively, helping the couple stay comfortable even during colder periods.

In 2025-26, we carried out energy efficiency works at 2,255 homes, helping customers live in warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient homes while reducing carbon emissions.

This year we successfully secured funding through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 programme. This programme funded energy efficiency improvements to 414 homes, with each property receiving an average of £7,500 in grant funding, matched by another £7,500 from Abri. Measures included upgrades such as improved insulation, replacement windows, ventilation systems and solar panels, helping customers reduce energy use and improve comfort in their homes.
