You may be aware, either from local press coverage or from the agenda for the forthcoming Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Cabinet meeting, that there is a proposal to transfer land next to Sawyers Close to Abri’s ownership to deliver affordable homes. The land in discussion would provide more space as part of a potential regeneration of Sawyers Close but we must remember there are other options including refurbishment.
This proposal has come forward now so that we (Abri) can ensure our internal planning is properly informed and that any choices we make about the future of Sawyers Close, including regeneration and refurbishment, are both realistic and logistically feasible.
Involving our customers
We recently asked our customers at Sawyers Close in Dedworth about their experience of living on the estate and what they thought of a number of options for the long-term future, including refurbishment and regeneration.
Abri has a long-term commitment to Sawyers Close and we are in the early stages of establishing what the parameters could be should regeneration become an option. We are committed to involving our customers in the future of Sawyers Close, it’s their home and they will help shape what happens to it.
Keeping options open
As part of our internal planning, and to keep all options open, we have now asked the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to consider transferring land next to Sawyers Close to Abri’s ownership to deliver affordable homes. The land could provide more space as part of a potential regeneration project if that route became an option.
This proposal has come forward now so that we can ensure our internal planning is properly informed and that any choices we make about the future, including regeneration and refurbishment, are both realistic and logistically feasible. This is a big step and one that we know will have a significant impact on those living at and close by to Sawyers Close.
No decisions have been made
We are conscious that there is a great deal of speculation as to what this proposal could mean. We want to reassure our customers, local residents and the community that no decisions have been taken and that, should regeneration proceed, there would be better, more usable green space as a result.
We can confirm that the nearby playing fields do not form part of this proposal, are not in the control of Abri and we see them as an asset to be retained.
Any proposals would be the subject of detailed consultation with our customers and the local community and we are not yet at that stage.
