If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. – Maya Angelou
It’s a really exciting time for us as a company. We’re now Abri, we have a shiny new brand, and we’re all coming together to talk about equality, diversity and inclusion.
October is a great opportunity for us to shout from the rooftops about equality because, as you know, it’s Black History Month! And we’ve all got a part to play.
Whether it’s in calling out bad behaviour, taking the time to listen so we can learn, or simply raising our individual voices to ensure equality of opportunity becomes a reality.
To get the conversation started this Black History Month we’re sharing three resources – a charity, an article and a series - that might get you thinking.
- Stay up-to-date with the global Black Lives Matter movement by signing up to their newsletter. By receiving news from them you’ll be able to follow – and take part – in a universal journey towards equality and social justice.
- The BBC is celebrating the legacy of black athletes this month, sharing inspiring stories from some of the world’s most influential tennis players, boxers, footballers and more!
- Ije Amaechi talks the Black Lives Matter movement during lockdown and how the time elevated black voices which led to a global conversation. But is it enough? Amaechi’s article is eye-opening and thought-provoking and asks us all to question whether we are turning our words into actions.
Don’t forget
Later in the month we’ll be sharing a really comprehensive list of books, films and podcasts that our colleagues and customers have been telling us about. As well as iconic people that have inspired you to think, feel or do differently!
And finally, keep your eye out for personal stories from both our customers and colleagues that will be coming your way soon.
It's not too late to submit your story
To really get people talking and inspire conversation, we want to hear from you. We want to find out more about our colleagues and our customers, and we need your help to achieve this. Soon we’ll be sharing videos that feature people talking about their history, their personal experiences and their hopes for the future.
Our hope is that by doing so we can learn more about the people in and out of our organisation. And tell their stories right.
