Support for people experiencing domestic abuse in our homes
We’re here to help customers experiencing domestic abuse. We work with partners, including local police, and domestic abuse charities to help people make their home a safe place to be. This is called ‘target hardening’. This could also include arranging a move to another property, if it’s safe to do so, away from where the abuse was happening. We also work with Independent Domestic Violence Advisors to put an action plan in place to stop the cycle of abuse to put appropriate safeguarding measures in place to help reduce the risk.
Abri’s domestic abuse policy
We’ve recently reviewed our domestic abuse policy to make sure it continues to meet our customers’ needs. As part of this, we spoke to organisations we work with to get their feedback.
Who we heard from
We spoke with 13 organisations that support residents affected by domestic abuse.
What they told us
They suggested we could:
- Help all colleagues better recognise the signs of domestic abuse through training
- Be clearer about how we’ll support and protect you, based on your situation
- Explain the management move process more clearly
What we’re doing
We’ve listened and are already making improvements:
- Training our colleagues
We’re introducing a new training programme to help our teams recognise domestic abuse, understand what to do, and connect you with the right support - Supporting joint tenants
We’re creating a guide to help you understand your rights if you have a joint tenancy and are considering other housing options - Making moves clearer
If you’re approved for a management transfer, we’ll give you clearer information, so you know what to expect
