More and more housebuilders are embracing modular housing and other modern methods of construction. They clearly know its value, but are buyers sold?
As we build more modular homes, we want purchasers to understand the benefits they offer and to recognise that they’re just as good, if not better, than a home built in traditional methods.
Modular homes have fewer defects thanks to the rigorous quality-control that a factory-built product can provide, they are more energy efficient, which reduces energy bills, and they embrace contemporary layouts. They are also made quicker, with no weather restrictions or site hold ups getting in the way. This means residents can move to their new home sooner than they might a traditionally built home.
Most importantly, this way of building is far more mindful of the environment. Buyers want homes that are built to last, but increasingly consumers are seeking eco-conscious and sustainable products, from reusable coffee cups to electric cars. Modular homes deliver significant carbon savings, and that’s not just good news for us, it’s attractive to buyers too.
We don’t think it will be long before the questions buyers ask sales agents are more concerned with the home’s environmental impact, than the number of parking spaces it offers or the size of its second bedroom.
Of course traditional construction methods still have an important role to play, but we’ve got a feeling that going modular is the future of home ownership. We want our buyers to understand the benefits of this new way of building, for them and the wider environment, and we’ll be doing lots more in the future to keep them informed.
