What matters to you and how we’re taking action
- You told us that crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) remains a concern, and many people still don’t feel safe in their neighbourhoods, despite a slight reduction in reported incidents
- You highlighted ongoing issues with litter and fly tipping, with some areas experiencing this more than others. Community feedback and action, such as the Great British Spring Clean in Kingsdown, showed how significant the issue is, with 10 bags of rubbish collected in just two hours
- You shared that there is a strong need for more activities and opportunities for children and young people in the area
- You welcomed new partnerships, including our work with Youth Unlimited, and support plans for summer holiday activities
- You told us that the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact households, with many still struggling financially
- You highlighted the importance of having access to affordable, healthy food, including local food support such as pantries
- You said that more support is needed to help people into sustainable employment and training opportunitie
- You want more opportunities to have your say and shape your communities, through regular engagement, projects and local action days
- You also told us how important it is to improve mental health and wellbeing support, including better access to physical activity and continued partnership working to tackle ASB
Who is your Community Development Officer?
Jamie Rawle is the Community Development Officer for Weymouth. He joined the Community team in 2024, having previously spent five years working in our Independent Living team.
I enjoy being a community development officer because it allows me to make a positive impact on our customers and their communities. The role gives me the opportunity to engage directly with customers and implement different initiatives based on community feedback. Each day brings fresh ideas, creativity, and problem-solving, which keeps me motivated. I also have the chance to collaborate with new partners who are already offering vital support to the community.

You said, we did

Youth provision is a priority for the area. We’ve teamed up with Youth Unlimited to deliver six youth sessions over the half term.
We did
Following the uptake of this, we’ve expanded this programme for the summer holidays, where we’ll be looking at additional groups and external agencies coming along to support young people with opportunities to help them grow, improve and learn new skills.

Customers said they were struggling with their mental health and felt isolated.
We did
We partnered with Mingle Café, and a local councillor to provide a safe inclusive space for people to attend. During these sessions participants could chat with people within the community, get involved in a few craft sessions and talk 1-1 with the qualified councillor.
What are we working on in Bridgwater?
Looking ahead, we’ll be focusing on building customer engagement in the area, delivering more community litter picks, holding a series of community safety events in partnership with the Police and Crimestoppers and looking for opportunities to support our communities overall wellbeing and sense of belonging to their community.
