A development of 37 affordable homes that include sustainable features to lower their carbon footprint is planned for Guildford.
Abri, one of the south’s largest housing providers, has secured land on Westway in Guildford to deliver the homes.
The proposals include a mix of affordable homes available to rent or through shared ownership and will be built by Abri’s inhouse construction team from mid-2022.
The designs for the new homes will incorporate sustainable features including electric car charging points and green roofs on some of the garages to help create natural habitats for flora and fauna and aid biodiversity. The green roofs will also help to lower their carbon footprint by absorbing CO2 and helping the buildings blend with the natural environment.
Andrew Ball, Land Manager at Abri said: “With this land acquisition we want to help meet the needs of local people and the community by providing affordable homes that are within walking distance to local amenities.
“At Abri, we’re committed to building at least 12,500 new sustainable homes by 2030 and by utilising our inhouse construction team, we can provide homes that will be of the highest quality for our customers. By incorporating sustainable features we’re also helping to lower the carbon footprint which has long term benefits for everyone that comes to live here.”
The new homes are expected to be completed by early 2024.
