A new development of 54 homes will be heated solely by air source heat pumps with no gas boilers on site.
One of the south’s largest housing providers, Abri has purchased land at 115 Chatham Street to provide 54 new affordable homes.
The new development will feature 100% affordable homes, with 42 homes available to buy through Shared Ownership and 12 homes for rent. The homes will be built by Abri’s inhouse construction management team on the site of a former office building, with work expected to start from summer 2022.
To help make the homes more sustainable, no gas boilers will be fitted but instead the homes will be heated by air source heat pumps which extract renewable heat from the outside air.
Gavin Board, Senior Land Manager at Abri said: “One of our priorities is to make sure Abri has a carbon neutral impact and by moving away from gas heating we’re helping to make these homes sustainable long term.
“Abri is committed to building at least 1,500 new homes a year by 2030 and using our own inhouse construction team will help us make sure the homes are of the very best quality. We want to improve opportunities for home ownership for more people and these affordable homes will do that in an area where they’re so vitally needed.”
