Abri appoints Baroness Polly Neate CBE, former Chief Executive of Shelter, and global investment banker Melanie Czarra to its Group Board
Following a highly competitive recruitment process, Abri has appointed Baroness Polly Neate CBE, former Chief Executive of Shelter, and Melanie Czarra, global investment banker, as two new Non-Executive Directors to its Group Board.

We’re thrilled to make these two very credible appointments to further strengthen our Board, bringing thorough understanding of the challenges facing our sector and customers, and significant investment and corporate finance knowledge into our conversations. These new insights, alongside our existing breadth of skills, will be instrumental for Abri’s future as we prepare to launch our bold new corporate strategy in 2026.”
Baroness Polly Neate CBE is best known for her role as Chief Executive of Shelter from 2017-2025, where she campaigned for greater rights for renters, new laws to improve the conditions of social housing, and supported those facing homelessness. In 2020 Polly was awarded a CBE for her services to tackling homelessness. Between 2013-2017 Polly was Chief Executive of Women’s Aid where she successfully campaigned for legislation to criminalise coercive and controlling behaviour. In 2025 Polly joined the House of Lords as a crossbench peer, nominated as an expert in social policy - specialising in housing, homelessness and violence against women and girls.

Melanie Czarra is an experienced Non-Executive Board Member and has over 30 years of experience in global investment banking. She has extensive knowledge of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and regularly provides trusted financial and governance advice to boards and Chief Financial Officers of numerous organisations including in the property sector. As founder and Chief Executive of three SMEs on the Isle of Wight, Melanie has witnessed first-hand the importance of safe, affordable housing and its impact on people’s life chances.
