On 27 June, Homes England announced that grant funding through the next Affordable Homes Programme, 2021-26, can be used to fund the replacement of homes, as well as new affordable homes, as part of regeneration plans.
On the changes, Stephen Lodge, Executive Director of Development and Strategic Asset Management at Abri said:
“We really welcome Homes England’s decision to allow grant funding to be used to replace homes and regenerate estates. At Abri we believe everyone has the right to a safe, warm and sustainable home. Whilst we continue with our ambition to build at least 10,000 new homes by 2030, Abri, over the next ten years Abri is investing £485m in existing homes to ensure they meet our customers needs and are energy efficient. Sometimes, our homes are not viable in the long term. In these instances, regeneration or redevelopment is the most appropriate option, we’re delighted that Homes England funding can now be used to support this. By regenerating more estates, we can ensure more customers live in high quality, sustainable homes and better support the levelling-up agenda, investing in areas of deprivation and creating opportunities for everyone in our communities.”
