Ahead of the new school year, we're working with local community partners to run school uniform swap shops for those in need. In July, the Children’s Society revealed that, on average, parents spend £422 a year on secondary school uniforms and £287 on primary school uniforms, with branded items costing even more.
Uniform swap shop sessions have begun, as the summer holidays continue and parents and guardians’ focus turns towards new school uniform for their children ahead of September.
The swap shops are free to attend and take place at:
- Wednesday 16, and 23 August, 10:30am-2pm, Café 1759, Chieftain House, Challenger Place, Bordon – Susi Drummond
- Every third Tuesday (next 15 August, then 19 September), 6pm-7pm, The Pump Room, Sawyers Close, Windsor – Danielle Lane
- Sunday 20 August, 10:30am-12:30pm, Round About Café, Westfield Corner, Mansbridge – Cara Headon
- Wednesday 23 August, 10am-12pm Felix Road Adventure Playground, Bristol – Kieran Jones
- Wednesday 30 August, 10:30am-1:30pm, St Peters Community Centre, Coronation Avenue, Yeovil – Sophie Clark
Abri Community Development Officer Kieran Jones said, “We know that many families struggle with being able to provide school provision for their children, and combined with the cost of living crisis, increased school uniform costs add another burden to already stretched family incomes. That’s why we’re working with communities and partners to run a series school uniform swap shops. We want to help our customers and our communities to thrive, so if our swap shops can relieve another pressure on families right now, then that’s fantastic news.”
Anyone with items they want to donate or wish to swap can simply turn up on the day; making sure that second hand clothes are washed and in good condition, donations of new clothes are welcome too. If further information is required please contact the appropriate Abri Community Development Officer above.
