A brand-new mobile community pantry is due to launch in Crewkerne on Monday 12 June. Abri’s new mobile pantry aims to support residents in rural areas who are struggling with the cost of living, by purchasing food for a fraction of the cost of supermarkets.
The mobile pantry, housed inside a specially fitted-out van, will be parked-up every Monday from 2pm-4pm at Scouts Hut Carpark, Furland Way, Crewkerne, TA18 8DD.
Membership to the pantry costs £1 a year, and customers can choose either 10 items for £3.50, or 15 items for £5. To start, the pantry will be cash only whilst we set up card payments. Customers pay on the day and anyone with a TA18 postcode can join. Residents are invited to sign up on the day. The food is distributed on a first come, first served basis, so there is no need to book.
Abri’s Community Development Officer Bobby Tait says: “I’m really looking forward to visiting Crewkerne every week in the mobile pantry van. The pantry will offer produce right in the heart of the community at a fraction of the cost. It’s all part of Abri’s commitment to supporting our customers with the cost of living.”
As part of the launch of the new mobile pantry on Monday 12 June, Abri will be running a cooking demonstration, sharing a few easy recipes using some of the items residents are likely to find in the pantry.
