Dedworth Library has secured the funding it needs to continue opening on Sundays thanks to a £1,600 donation through Abri’s social value programme, making it easier for local people to use the library at times that fit around work, family and other commitments.
For locals, Dedworth Library is much more than a place to borrow books. Users say they rely on its computers when they do not have access at home and Library staff often have more time to help on Sundays. Sunday opening also gives those working full time and supporting their family a valuable opportunity to visit when busy Saturdays are often filled with children’s sports and other activities.
Funding for Dedworth Library’s Sunday opening was secured through Abri’s social value programme. Through the programme, the housing provider asks its suppliers to give something back to the communities it serves. Contributions can include funding or financial donations, materials, employment opportunities and volunteering hours. In this case, a £1,600 donation from Claranet, Abri’s technology provider, has matched the separate £2,000 donation from LEGOLAND to fund Sunday opening until March 2027.
Danielle Welburn, Community Investment Officer at Abri, said: “I’m pleased that Dedworth Library will continue to open on Sundays for the next year. Dedworth Library, estimate that local Abri residents will make around 1,500 Sunday visits over the next year, borrowing approximately 2,500 books and other items. Thank you to Claranet for making this possible through their contribution to the library through our social value programme.”
Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead ward councillor for Clewer and Dedworth East and Corporate Social Responsibility Champion, Cllr Helen Price, said:

Libraries play a vital role in helping children develop language skills, broaden their vocabulary and thrive at school. With more than 2.3 million books read during the Summer Reading Challenge, Dedworth Library continues to provide an important and accessible service at the heart of the community.
