We want to keep all our customers safe from fire, that’s why we’re asking you to keep communal areas clear.
These areas also act as escape routes, if they are cluttered or blocked, you won’t be able to use them if a fire broke out.
This also means we must ask you to not put up any seasonal, festive, or religious decorations that could catch light, such as wreaths, paper decorations, bunting etc. We’re not trying to be party poopers honestly, we just much prefer to not take chances and to keep you, your families, and your neighbours safe.
Please clear the routes
Communal areas are the hallways, corridors, stairs, walkways, and spaces under the stairs in your building. If you have any of the following stored in one of these areas, please move it somewhere safe or dispose of it.
- rubbish bags
- bicycles
- prams
- toys
- shoes
- doors
- furniture
Need help moving items?
If you have large items to get rid of, contact your local council who may be able to offer discounted or free collection (depending on your circumstances). You can also take items to your local recycling centre.
What if items are left in the communal areas?
Our Neighbourhood Officers/Community Partners will frequently visit the buildings to check the areas are clear of clutter.
If they see any items that need to be removed, they will contact you or they will place a notice on the item, asking for it to be removed within 48 hours if they can’t get hold of you.
If it isn’t removed after 48 hours it will be taken into storage, and we’ll charge you £10 to cover the storage cost. If you don’t claim your item or dispose of it after one month, we’ll send it to charity or to a recycling centre.
Thank you in advance for helping us to keep you safe in your home.
If you have any questions, please call your Housing Officer on 0300 123 1567.
