At Abri, we believe everyone deserves a safe, stable, and supportive home. Creating vibrant communities is at the heart of what we do, and it begins with giving our customers the security they need to thrive. That's why we're proud to back the National Housing Federation’s Starts at Home campaign, which highlights the transformative power of supported housing.
Supported housing goes beyond providing a place to live—it’s about offering personalised support to help people overcome challenges, regain independence, and lead fulfilling lives. Whether it’s helping someone with a disability live independently or providing a refuge for those facing homelessness, supported housing is a lifeline.
Our Partnership Living and Independent Living teams currently support over 4,000 people across various accommodations, from residential care homes to single flats. We're committed to ensuring their safety and well-being with the help of our dedicated community wellbeing coordinators.
Today, we’re sharing an inspiring story from our community that truly shows the difference supported housing can make.
Causeway Farm
When customers living in our Causeway farm Independent Living scheme told us they were keen to learn First Aid in case of a medical emergency, our Independent Living team wasted no time in seeing how we could help. We knew it was important to provide the training as we’re set out to support those who need it by regaining confidence and independence in their own homes and communities.
Having come across the free emergency First Aid course, the team partnered with St John Ambulance to deliver a one-day workshop at the scheme in Horndean last October.
Along with a few of our Independent Living Partners, ten customers took part in the training. They learnt about everything from CPR, choking and defibrillators, through to bleeding, strokes and what to do if someone is unresponsive.
Customers left feeling more prepared on what to do should they or anyone in the community need help. Here’s what they told us:
- “It was nice for everyone to come together for this training”
- “Doing this gives me confidence moving forward”
- “The trainer was very funny and got people involved, seeing people perform CPR on the dummy was very interesting.”
