We own homes, and work closely with communities, all over the south of England. From Portsmouth to Yeovil, Windsor to Reading, we’re invested in building more homes and helping neighbourhoods to grow and thrive.
Because of this, it’s important that we grab any opportunity to try and influence future policies. So we recently submitted our response to the Government’s Planning for the Future consultation. By answering their questions we can share some insight into the areas we work in and make suggestions to influence the best way forward.
We know that you might not have time to read our whole response – it’s rather lengthy! So here’s a quick summary of what we said.
Our view in a nutshell:
- Protecting green spaces and the local environment is a top priority when considering future developments.
- Communities should be widely consulted with and their needs prioritised when new developments are being considered.
- Increasing the affordability of housing should be the primary focus of any new development.
- Housing growth should be actively encouraged by planning teams at local authorities.
- Fundamental changes are required to the planning system to further boost housing supply, this includes speeding up and simplifying the planning decisions process.
- Designing energy efficient homes that are truly affordable is important.
- We welcome the Government’s commitment to reform the planning system and boost the supply of new homes.
We always want to hear the views of our customers and partners. Whenever we submit a response to consultations, we’ll be sure to let you know in advance, in case you want to have your say with us.
