Forty new homes at Green Park Village will soon provide much-needed affordable housing for people in Reading.
Thanks to a partnership between large housing provider Abri and St Edward, part of the Berkeley Group plc, a deal has been secured which ensures all 40 homes will be available for affordable rent, typically around 20% below local market rates. Priority for the homes will be given to local families and individuals on Reading Borough Council’s waiting list, which currently has more than 2,500 people seeking an affordable home.
Through Abri’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England, the government’s housing and delivery agency, Abri will use grant funding alongside its own funding to make all the homes affordable.
Thomas Wells, Land Manager at Abri said:
“We are proud to deliver these much-needed affordable homes for Reading, which demonstrates our commitment to building high-quality, sustainable housing that meets the needs of the community. Working with Berkeley Group again strengthens our partnership and successful track record of delivering well-designed, affordable homes without compromising standards.
“The new homes form part of Abri’s wider commitment to building 10,000 new homes by 2030 and by working collaboratively, we’re able to support more people and deliver, real lasting change.”
The homes will be a combination of one- and two-bedroom apartments, which are part of the established community at Green Park Village which includes a lakeside setting, on-site train station and primary school.
Alongside the new homes at Green Park Village, Abri currently has more than 258 homes under construction or in the pipeline in Reading. These include 134 affordable homes being built by Abri’s in-house construction team which include 54 homes at Chatham Street, 40 homes at Caversham Road and another 40 homes at Elgar Road South, all three developments will provide 100% affordable housing.
