On 7 July, Lloyds Banking Group brought together senior leaders from across the housing sector for their Social Housing Forum – and Abri was proud to be part of it.
With the UK on the brink of the biggest expansion in social and affordable housing in a generation, this was a moment to align ambition, resources, and action.
Our Chief Executive, Gary Orr, joined a powerful line-up of speakers including Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner MP, Charlie Nunn, CEO of Lloyds Banking Group, Eamonn Boylan, CEO of Homes England, and Kate Henderson, CEO of the National Housing Federation.
Fresh from last month’s spending review – which confirmed a landmark £39 billion investment in housing and a ten-year rent settlement – the forum focused on how we can turn this once-in-a-generation opportunity into lasting change.
Key takeaways
- A golden opportunity for renewal
The sector is entering a decade of unprecedented potential. With long-term rent certainty, the creation of a National Housing Bank, and a clear policy direction, the foundations are in place to deliver real, lasting change. The Deputy Prime Minister’s message was clear: the time to act is now. This is a rare moment of alignment between funding, ambition, and political will – and we must seize it. - Places and partnerships
Delivering more homes is only part of the story. The forum highlighted the importance of creating vibrant, liveable communities – not just housing units. At Abri, we’re putting this into practice through our regional model, with four locally led areas that ensure we’re visible, accountable, and responsive to the unique needs of our communities. Regeneration, place-making, and strong public-private partnerships will be key to success. - Big challenges, bold solutions
While the mood was optimistic, the scale of the challenge ahead is clear. From fragmented land ownership and contaminated brownfield sites to skills shortages and the cost of regeneration, delivery won’t be easy. But with long-term thinking, systemic reform, and cross-sector collaboration, these challenges can be overcome. The sector must be bold, creative, and united in its response.
What’s next for Abri?
At Abri, we’re ready to meet this moment. The forum’s message was clear: this is a golden opportunity for the sector – and we’re determined to make it count.
We’ve already delivered over half of our 10,000-home target for 2030, and with renewed government backing and sector-wide momentum, we’re exploring how we can go even further. At the same time, we remain committed to investing in our existing homes to ensure they’re safe, warm, and future-ready.
In the months ahead, we’ll be working closely with partners to unlock delivery, overcome challenges, and shape the future of housing together. We’ll also be sharing our views on the latest consultations – and continuing to champion the role of housing in building stronger, fairer communities. We’re always keen to keep our customers’ voices at the heart of our responses. If you’d like to share your views, keep an eye out on My Abri for opportunities to get involved.
