We fund community groups to help bring projects to life. Ones that have local people at the heart of everything they do.
Most recently we provided £680 to KidsOut to support them in their Covid-19 relief work. With our support they delivered 14 boxes of brand-new toys to children living in refuges in Southampton in September.
Kid’s Out’s work formed part of a larger initiative that saw 5,851 toy boxes distributed to children self-isolating in women’s refuges across the UK between April and September.
The national initiative has seen amazing results, with families feeling happier, less stressed and anxious, and creating positive memories. A mother of one of the recipients said:
“This is an amazing charity, and I am unbelievably grateful. Coming into a refuge and leaving the comforts of home behind is hard, but for a child not to have their toys and have to move is overwhelming. This is the start of them rebuilding their lives.”
KidsOut’s toy box delivery has had a positive impact on the experiences of children in refuges over a relatively short period of time, directly supporting those who need it the most. A refuge support worker said:
“These toy boxes are such a special and highly valued gift to our children at a time when they need support, love and distraction from the cruel reality of domestic violence and separation from family and friends. On delivery they never fail to raise a smile and are a relief to mums who are battling with difficult circumstances and they take some comfort in the knowledge their children are happy for a while. Thanks for all your support.”
