We have submitted responses to two recent government consultations: Speeding Up Build Out and Implementing Measures to Improve Build Out Transparency. Both aim to increase the pace and accountability of housing delivery, which aligns closely with Abri’s commitment to building more high-quality, affordable homes across the south of England.
We strongly support the goal of getting homes built more quickly and efficiently. Housing associations like Abri already deliver at pace we have pre-allocated funding, trusted delivery partners, and homes ready for residents who urgently need them. We are delighted that government has recognised the key role that affordable housing plays in speeding up build-out.
That’s why we’ve asked government to ensure that new penalties for delayed delivery do not apply to affordable housing providers, who are not holding land back but instead are working hard to overcome a range of delivery challenges.
We’ve also highlighted areas where national consistency would help unlock faster build out, such as clear guidance on Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) relief for affordable housing, and flexibility to adjust tenure in response to local market conditions.
As part of our £2.66 billion investment programme, we are committed to delivering at least 10,000 homes by 2030, while continuing to work with partners, including local authorities and Homes England, to meet the growing need for affordable, sustainable housing.
