We’ve broken ground with local housebuilder Allison Homes South West, on a new 67-home development in Crewkerne, on the Goldwell Farm site north of Yeovil Road, after planning approval was granted by Somerset Council late last year. The partnership scheme will deliver 100% affordable homes for local people. More than 13,000 households are currently on the waiting list for social housing in Somerset, highlighting the urgent need for new affordable homes across the county.
As the development takes shape, Allison Homes South West will contribute £6,700 through its Partnership Pledge, which is committed to donating £100 to a local charity for every new home contracted through a partnership scheme.
The Goldwell Farm site will incorporate low-carbon construction fabric, with native landscaping and integrated drainage systems that enhance biodiversity and respond to long-term climate change. The homes themselves will be highly energy efficient, with enhanced insulation and air source heat pumps.
To make all the homes affordable, Abri plans to use funding from its Strategic Partnership with Homes England, the Government's housing and regeneration agency, alongside its own investment. The homes will be allocated through Somerset Council’s housing register, helping ensure they go to people with the greatest need and a strong connection to the area.
The development will also provide over £468,000 in S106 contributions to the local area, including significant funds towards a playing pitch and changing rooms, local education, youth services and sustainable travel.
Future residents will benefit from strong transport links, with upgraded access to Ashlands Road and its bus services, plus new pedestrian and cycle networks, cycle storage and 180 parking spaces including for visitors and school drop-off/pick up.
“Developments like Goldwell Farm are about more than building houses, they’re about giving people the opportunity to put down roots, build connections and be part of a thriving community. This scheme will deliver meaningful investment into local facilities, green spaces and infrastructure, benefitting both new and existing residents.
“Through Abri’s new investment strategy, we’re committed to taking a long-term approach that not only increases the supply of high-quality homes but also strengthens the communities around them. Our ambition to build 20,000 new homes by 2036 reflects both the scale of housing need and our determination to work with partners to make a lasting, positive difference in places like Crewkerne.”
