We've been named as number four in Housing Digital’s Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers.
We've made the top five just weeks after appointing our first-ever Executive Director of Assets and Sustainability, as well as announcing our role as a founding partner in the launch of the Greener Futures Partnership, which will lead the way in becoming carbon neutral in the sector.
Rose Bean, our Executive Director of Assets and Sustainability said: “Climate change is one of Abri’s seven strategic priorities and central to our values and purpose as an organisation. To be recognised as number four in the Housing Digital Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers is a fantastic achievement for Abri colleagues and a great step forward in our journey to net zero.
“We’re creating a culture of low carbon thinking at Abri to become EPC C by 2030 and net zero carbon by 2050, engaging with our colleagues, customers and communities to make positive steps to reduce our shared footprint. This includes changing how we build new homes, making sure everything is ‘zero carbon ready’, and adopting modern methods of construction for at least 25% of our new homes.
“We’re also investing more than £215 million in our existing homes, helping to address climate change and ensuring our homes are sustainable places where everyone can grow, thrive and belong. Alongside this, we’re making important changes to how we work to make Abri a great, sustainable place to work, opening new job opportunities and developing skill sets.”
Launched this year, the Housing Digital Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers list celebrates the efforts the social housing sector is making to help combat the climate crisis, and recognises organisations that have gone above and beyond to improve the sustainability of their housing stock and their own organisation. Receiving recognition in the top 30 gives housing providers the opportunity to collaborate with peers and demonstrate to customers and stakeholders their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.
“We’re committed to playing our part in achieving the government’s 2050 net zero target,” said Rose. “Our journey to net zero carbon gives us the opportunity to improve the lives of our customers, colleagues and communities, as well as protecting the future of the planet. At Abri, sustainability means safe, warm and efficient homes for more people, leading to better life chances, health and wellbeing. It means our communities can thrive, surrounded by green spaces and having the opportunity to get involved in outdoor projects. And it means our colleagues have a great place to work, promoting healthier and more agile ways of working that support them.”
The accolade follows hot on the heels of last month’s announcement that we had ranked as number 73 in the UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For and number four in Housing’s 25 Best Associations to Work For. We also recently retained our Investors in People Gold accreditation.
