After six years in a one-bedroom Shared Ownership apartment in Feltham, Jack and Stacey decided their growing family needed more space.
They moved to a three-bedroom home in Surrey, purchasing a 25% share with a £13,500 deposit funded through the sale of their previous home.
The move has given the family separate bedrooms for their children, a dedicated space for Stacey to work from home and their own garden.

While monthly household costs have increased, Jack said the improvement in quality of life has made the adjustment worthwhile. He added that the increased bills were lower than he had expected and that the additional space and flexibility offered by their new home far outweighed the higher costs.
For the couple, Shared Ownership was not just a route onto the property ladder but a way to continue their homeownership journey. Jack said their previous home had initially been intended as a short-term solution, but they stayed for six years. Once they had their son, it became clear that they needed a larger home with more space for family life.

They found the process of selling their apartment and buying their new home more straightforward than expected. By using the proceeds from the sale of their previous property, they were able to move into a larger home while remaining within reach of London, with rail connections of less than 30 minutes.
Jack and Stacey are thinking about staircasing to buy a larger share of their home, but for now they feel their current arrangement suits their family’s needs and provides a long-term place to live.
Building for the future
In 2025-26, we delivered 1,123 new homes, including 1,093 affordable and social rent homes. Of these, 530 were built for Shared Ownership, meaning we exceeded our annual delivery target and supported more people into homes they can afford. We also strengthened our future development programme, exchanging contracts on 640 plots and securing a further 1,075 plots for future homes.
With affordability continuing to be a challenge for many people, we’re committed to offering access to low-cost home ownership. During the year, we sold 502 new Shared Ownership homes, supported 178 customers to increase their share of ownership through staircasing, and completed more than 200 home resales. Money generated through these sales is reinvested into delivering more affordable homes and delivering even better services.
