One of our customers, Alan, had been out of work for three months. He was struggling with his confidence and self-esteem but really wanted to improve.
He felt getting back into work would support him to feel better. One of our Community Partners, Nicola Channon, referred Alan onto our employment team.
Mandy Noone, Employment Coach, took on Alan’s case. First, she needed to help him update his CV so he could be in the best position to start his job search. Mandy then realised that Alan did not have a working phone, so he was unable to use email or search for jobs online. The team applied to the Tesco Mobile Reconnects scheme so Alan could get a smart phone, they were successful and within a week Alan had a working phone.
The help the employment team gave Alan made a huge difference. With his old CV he was unable to get to the interview stage for jobs, but with his new one he was offered the first job he applied too! Alan is now working as a grass cutter with South Somerset District Council, keeping his community looking great! Working is not only giving Alan a steady stream of income, it’s also help boost his confidence and mental wellbeing. He said this about our fantastic employment team:
“If I didn't have you lot in my life, I don't think I would be here now. I felt so low and so run down there was no hope for me. Then I met you and you brought me back and now I am working I can't thank you enough”.
