The Shinewell Gardens project has taken another leap forward thanks to a recent planting day.
In September 2021, we were given permission by Southampton City Council to turn a disused area of Council owned land between Shinewell Gardens and Mason Moor Primary School in Millbrook into a space for the community. Since then, customers, Abri and Green Earth Plan have been working to bring the plans to life.
On 27 November, customers braved the cold, wind and sleet to join Abri and Green Earth Plan colleagues to litter pick, plant flowers and shrubs, rotavate land, spread wildflower seeds, and secure the log seating/steppingstones.
It was a real community day, with adults and children taking part and helping. The children really enjoyed getting involved in learning about planting, how to dig, and trying out the steppingstones/log seating.
One customer has agreed to make sure that the shrubs and flowers are watered and looked after. And plans are being made to come back once the weather improves to finish painting the benches and carry out more planting.
